Grab a deck of cards and lets make card sculptures. Younger children and older children alike can have fun making their own sculptures using cards. This isn’t just a fun activity, but an educational one as it is a STEM activity.

It involves engineering principles, creativity, and problem-solving skills where kids can also practice fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. It also encourages hands on learning that will allow children to experiment with different materials. So, let’s start sculpting.

Ways To Modify This Card Sculpting Activity For Younger Children

You can stack your cards long!

If your little one is too young to be using scissors or their fine motor skills isn’t quite there to put cards in the slits. You could use Velcro dots on the card so they can still make sculptures. Building a snake is an option rather than building up too.

Ways To Modify This Card Sculpting Activity For Older Children

Draw different pictures or find pictures online for children to recreate. Or have kids draw schematics for each other. It’s a fun way to explore different ways to build towers, buildings, and sculptures.

Our Experience With This Card Sculpting Activity

We actually really enjoyed this sculpting activity. Originally we had tried to build card houses and it wasn’t working out so well. Especially since we have hard floors. I find carpets really help with stability. So, we had to modify the activity a bit.

At first I considered glue, and that’s great if you want your card sculpture to be permanent. But I wanted a way for my kids to be able to build over and over again. And the idea was actually inspired by Lincoln Logs that were kind of scattered in my kids playroom.

So, the slits made the most sense and the older kids were able to make their own and help the younger kids. It was a fun activity that really involved everyone. I hope your family has as much fun with this activity as mine did.
