In case you’re not familiar with Palm Sunday, let me explain! Palm Sunday commemorates when Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem a week before he died on the cross. People waved palm fronds on both sides of the road and cried “Hosanna to the Son of David!” You can read more about it in Matthew 21.
But this Palm Sunday craft will not only allow children to make their own palm leaf to wave, but also let kids explore the Bible, bring a Bible story to life, as well as practice fine motor skills. So without further ado, let’s make this Palm Sunday craft!

Supplies Needed To Make This Palm Sunday Craft
How To Make This Palm Sunday Craft
Step 1
Trace a tear drop or dumpling shape onto your green paper using your pencils and cut it out.
Step 2
Fold your green paper like you would a fan.
Step 3
Cut out triangles between the folds on the flat paper. This will help your diy palm leaf project look more realistic.
Step 4
Glue your palm leaves onto your popsicle sticks. Those will be the palm branches.
Step 5
Write “hosanna” on your palm branches.
How To Make This Palm Sunday Craft Your Own
Just like all our other crafts, you can make this simple paper craft your own. You can do things like:
- Using craft sticks instead of popsicle sticks. There are different sized dowel rods that can be painted and used.
- Use card stock paper for your art project.
- Do a little foraging and find a big leaf or real palm frond.
- Make this an even more low-lost idea and make your fronds bigger without using popsicle sticks or craft sticks.
- Punch holes down the middle and on the sides to lace yarn through it to make it even more gross motor skill practice.
- Write scripture on the handles instead of hosanna.
Our Experience With This Palm Sunday Craft
With the holy week here I wanted my kids to understand and see the concept of Palm Sunday. And coloring pages are great, but I wanted something a little more intimate hence this palm leaf activity was born. We can celebrate Jesus’ entry in Jerusalem and worship Him with his fun craft. I love when crafts and a Bible lesson mixes.
I originally tried this craft using paper plates, but couldn’t quite make them look like palm leaves, so we stuck with paper.
The real reason I decided to do this craft is so my kids remember that the Easter season and Easter day isn’t just about Easter eggs, the Easter bunny, and chocolate. But to remind them of the ressurection of Christ and His sacrifice for us. I think it’s an important lesson to keep in mind, always. I hope you and your family had a fun time making this craft.
